About Naming Opportunities
Naming Opportunities are a great way to incentivize major gifts, and ClearView helps you manage them for your organization. Select the slider below to learn about the VAE fields associated with Naming Opportunities, or select the Steps tab for detailed usage instructions.
Code |
A unique code used to identify the Naming Opportunity record in lookup tables.
Input: up to 10 characters.
Existing codes cannot be edited.

Description |
A brief description of the Naming Opportunity.
Input: up to 40 characters of free text.
|
Price |
The purchase price of the Naming Opportunity.
Input: up to 14 characters comprising of 12 dollar values, 2 decimal values, and one decimal point.
|
Fund |
A fund code associated with the Naming Opportunity.
Use the lookup icon to search for the fund code you want to associate with the naming opportunity record.
|
Category |
An organization-defined Naming Opportunity category; for example, many organizations offer Naming Opportunities associated with categories such as “building”, “bridge”, or “brick”.
|
Start Date |
The initial day it becomes available for purchase.
Enter a date manually, or use the drop-down calendar to set a start date.
|
Account |
The associated Account Code where income generated from the opportunity is deposited.
|
Supplier |
An associated Prospect Record for the individual or organization supplying the product or service available for naming.
|
Message |
The message that appears on the item being named.
Input: up to 40 characters of free text.

End Date |
The last day it is available for purchase.
Enter a date manually, or use the drop-down calendar to set an end date.
|
Unit |
A Unit ID number associated with the Solicitor Code; for example, if a Solicitor Code is solely associated with a particular unit, enter it here.

User Defined Fields |
Up to five User Defined VAE fields can be added and customized to the specific operational needs of your organization.

User Text Fields |
Up to two User Text VAE fields can be added and customized to the specific operational needs of your organization. Input: up to 40 characters. To learn more about adding, removing, or customizing these fields, see the documentation for configuring VAEs.

To navigate within the Naming Opportunities data table:
1. Select the Site Map icon in the Navigation Menu.
- The Site Map menu page displays.

3. Navigate within the full-page data table using any of the following methods:
- Adjust the number of rows displayed:
○ Near the upper-left of your Results list, select the drop-down menu for Show rows .
○ Select a number from the drop-down reflecting how many rows you wish to display.
○ The menu will automatically minimize itself and reformat the list to reflect your selection.
The number of rows you choose to display is now indicated in the drop-down menu in bold.
- Page through the records using the page navigator in the upper-right of the Results list .
○ Selecting the forward arrow brings you to the next page of results.
○ Selecting the forward-all arrow brings you to the last page of results.
○ Selecting the backward arrow brings you to the previous page of results.
○ Selecting the backward-all arrow brings you to the first page of results.
○ Go directly to a specific page by entering its number into the Page field.
Navigation arrows will appear greyed out or non-selectable if there are no more results to navigate to.
- Sort the data table rows by header column:
○ Select a column you would like to sort; selecting once will sort in ascending order, and twice will sort in descending order.
○ An upward-pointing triangle in the column header indicates results are being sorted in ascending order with respect to that column; similarly, a downward-pointing triangle indicates results are being sorted in descending order, with respect to that column.
Ascending results sort from oldest to newest, least to greatest, or alphabetically from A to Z.
Descending results sort from newest to oldest, greatest to least, or reverse-alphabetically from Z to A.
- Reduce your data set into something more manageable with the filter options located the green box above the results table:
○ From the View drop-down, select Not Expired to view all current Naming Opportunities or Expired to view only Naming Opportunities whose end dates have passed.
○ Select Filter More to filter by Added Past Month, Added Past Week, or Added By Me; check one or more of these options and select the Apply button to update the results list.
○ Use the Restore button (located to the right of Filter More) if you wish to reset the screen to the default view (seen previously when you first navigated to the data table).
If there are no matching results, the table displays a No Results Found notification.
The Clear Filters link unchecks all selected filters, but does not reset the View.

To personalize the Naming Opportunities data table:
1. Select the Site Map icon in the Navigation Menu.
- The Site Map menu page displays.

in the top-right corner of the data table

- A Personalize pop-up window displays , requesting confirmation you would like to customize your View.
4. Review the pop-up window and choose Continue to proceed with personalizing the data table view, or Cancel to return to the data table without making any changes.
Once you have personalized your data table, Personalize changes to Settings.

To change the Naming Opportunities data table's settings:
1. Select the Site Map icon in the Navigation Menu.
- The Site Map menu page displays.

- The Settings pop-up window displays .
4. Adjust the table's settings as desired:
- Alter the number of results displayed per page by using the Number of rows to show drop-down menu.
- Show or hide table columns; select the plus button next to field names in Available Columns to add them to your table, and the minus button next to field names in Displayed Columns to remove them.
- Change the ordering of Displayed Columns by selecting on the up/down arrows and dragging the field to another spot within the list.
- Set the Sort By drop-down menu to make the table always sort by a specific column.
- Use Sort Direction to specify whether your Sort By field sorts in Ascending or Descending order.
Ascending results sort from oldest to newest, least to greatest, or alphabetically from A to Z.
Descending results sort from newest to oldest, greatest to least, or reverse-alphabetically from Z to A.
5. Select Save to keep your new settings, or Cancel to return to the data table without making any changes.
Select the Restore To Defaults link to reset the data table view to the original configuration determined by your organization.

To restore the Naming Opportunities data table's settings to default
1. Select the Site Map icon in the Navigation Menu.
- The Site Map menu page displays.

Restore To Defaults
near the bottom of the window

- The Restore To Defaults pop-up window displays .
5. Select Yes to restore the data table to your organization’s default configuration, or No to return to the data table without making any changes.
When you choose Yes, your personalized settings are deleted. You can always re-set them up by personalizing the data table.

To export Naming Opportunity records to an Excel spreadsheet:
1. Select the Site Map icon in the Navigation Menu.
- The Site Map menu page displays.

To edit an existing Naming Opportunity record:
1. Select the Site Map icon in the Navigation Menu.
- The Site Map menu page displays.

3. Select on the row associated with the Naming Opportunity record you wish to edit.
- The selected record displays.
4. Edit the record as desired:
-
To make changes to an individual field, hover your mouse over it until you see an Edit box; select within the Edit box to begin editing the field.

Select Edit All in the top-right corner if you wish open all VAE fields within the record for editing.
Save
to update the table with your changes, or
Cancel
to discard them.
- The record displays.

To create a new Naming Opportunity record:
1. Select the Site Map icon in the Navigation Menu.
- The Site Map menu page displays.
2. Choose Naming Opportunities in the Utilities section .
- The Naming Opportunities page displays.
Create New
in the top-right corner of the data table.
- A Naming Opportunity record displays.
4. Populate the fields as desired, and select Save to create the new record or Cancel to discard it and return to the table.
- If saved, the new record is displayed.
Field labels ending in an asterisk are mandatory.

To delete a Naming Opportunity record:
1. Select the Site Map icon in the Navigation Menu.
- The Site Map menu page displays.

3. Select on the row associated with the Naming Opportunity record you wish to delete
- The selected record displays.
Tools
in the top-right corner of the data table, then select
Delete
- The Delete Record pop-up window displays .
Yes
to delete the Naming Opportunity record, or
No
to retain the record.
- If Yes was selected, ClearView deletes the record and returns you to the updated Naming Opportunities data table.
Deleted records cannot be recovered.
Attempting to delete records currently in use by any database table will prompt an error message.
